Senior Mainframe Systems Engineer (BMC AMI Ops Automation)

Location: Remote. Visa sponsorship is not available. Must be able to work W-2 after six months.

Pay: $65–75 per hour.

hirify.global is helping a client manage mission-critical z/OS workloads and migrate mainframe automation from AF/OPERATOR to BMC AMI Ops Automation.

What you will do

• Lead and support the migration from AF/OPERATOR to BMC AMI Ops Automation, analyzing existing rules and mapping each automation component to the target platform.
• Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and troubleshoot BMC AMI Ops Automation and other vendor-supplied mainframe products.
• Use system logs, SYSOUT, dumps, and diagnostic data to diagnose complex incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Work independently with BMC, Broadcom, IBM, Rocket, and other ISVs on upgrades and technical issues.
• Support Sysplex environments and disaster recovery activities, including DR setup, IPL testing, replication technologies, and DR events.
• Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation and collaborate with the wider mainframe infrastructure team.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with BMC AMI Ops Automation, including installation, setup, upgrades, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Mainframe systems programming experience on z/OS and knowledge of SMP/E.
• Experience owning vendor-supplied mainframe products and working with ISVs such as BMC, Broadcom, IBM, or Rocket.
• Strong mainframe troubleshooting skills, including the ability to own problems and drive vendors toward resolution.
• Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Nice to have

• Direct AF/OPERATOR to AMI Ops Automation migration experience.
• Sysplex experience.
• Experience with REXX or CLIST.
• Assembler or COBOL experience.
• Mainframe disaster recovery, IPL testing, or replication technologies experience.
• Experience diagnosing complex incidents using dumps, SYSOUT, logs, and diagnostic data.
