Senior DevOps Engineer (Terraform)

Location: Remote from the USA for residents of CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OH, OR, TN, TX, VA, or WA; hybrid options are available at offices in Austin, Texas and Tampa, Florida. Onsite interviews may be required. The role is not available within the city limits of Chicago unless the candidate resides outside the city or is willing to self-relocate.

Base salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, Washington, or New York.

What you will do

• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines focused on artifact and environment promotion, deployment gating, Terraform plan reviews, policy checks, and automated rollback.
• Implement blue/green, canary, and rolling delivery strategies with automated health checks, gating, and rollback.
• Develop release orchestration tooling for services and regions, including scheduling, change tracking, and feature-flag-driven rollouts.
• Design reusable Terraform modules, manage remote state and workspaces, and support secure, provider-agnostic infrastructure patterns across AWS, Azure, and GCP with Kubernetes as the common runtime.
• Integrate policy-as-code, security and compliance scanning, and cost checks using tools such as Sentinel, OPA, Checkov, and Infracost.
• Enable engineering teams to adopt IaC through migrations, documentation, golden-path templates, monitoring, incident response, rollback, and remediation.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in a cloud-based DevOps environment, including deep current AWS expertise and release engineering, deployment automation, and IaC.
• Production experience with Azure and/or GCP in addition to AWS; experience operating on two or more clouds is preferred.
• 4+ years of production Terraform experience, including module authoring, remote state management, workspaces, provider version management, and CI/CD-integrated plan/apply workflows.
• Experience with Kubernetes or ECS, Helm, and Kustomize, including provisioning clusters and node groups through Terraform.
• Experience with Terraform in a multi-team environment, including state design, module registries, versioning policy, and access control.
• Deep experience designing and operating continuous delivery pipelines, including blue/green, canary, and rolling releases with automated rollback.
• Experience reducing deployment lead time, change failure rate, and time to recover through automation and codified infrastructure.
• Experience helping teams adopt IaC through documentation, golden-path templates, and migrations; strong cloud operations skills focused on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Git, and BitBucket; 5+ years with Unix-like operating systems; 4+ years scripting with Shell, Go, Python, Perl, or Tcl/Tk; and 4+ years of production monitoring, alerting, and deployment observability.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with provider-agnostic Terraform module patterns.
• CircleCI experience.
• Experience with Terragrunt, Terraform Cloud/Enterprise, Atlantis, Sentinel/OPA, or Checkov.
