Lead Full Stack Kotlin Developer

Location: United Kingdom, within reasonable travelling distance of a hirify.global office in Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, London or Bristol; requires flexibility to work at a hirify.global office or client site at least 2 days per week. Relocation support of up to £8,000 is available.

What you will do

• Act as a technical subject matter expert and Lead Consultant within multidisciplinary delivery squads.
• Explore, design and deliver user-centred digital solutions for complex client problems.
• Review and prioritise delivery team workloads while maintaining software quality and best practices.
• Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, resolving bottlenecks and delivery issues.
• Present prototypes, solutions and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead engineer recruitment and onboarding, and support professional development through mentoring and coaching.

Requirements

• Extensive Kotlin experience across the full development lifecycle, with a strong foundation in the Java/JVM ecosystem.
• Proven experience leading delivery teams to build high-quality, robust and scalable solutions.
• Expertise in Kotlin backend development with Spring Boot and the wider Spring Framework, including Spring MVC, Spring Security, REST APIs, Kotlin idioms and coroutines where applicable.
• Experience designing microservices architectures, RESTful API services and Kotlin-based microservice patterns.
• Expertise in public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP, and DevOps practices including Docker and Kubernetes.
• In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with frontend technologies such as Angular, React and TypeScript.

Nice to have

• Experience on GOV or NHS projects or in a consultancy environment.
• Experience migrating legacy Java codebases to idiomatic Kotlin.
• Experience with asynchronous messaging systems such as Kafka and Kotlin Coroutines/Flow for reactive programming.
• Familiarity with Kotlin-native frameworks such as Ktor or functional programming libraries such as Arrow.
