Software Engineer (Java/React)

Location: Hybrid, with in-office presence twice a week in Manchester, United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain features and services for the future audio platform, including prototyping and early-stage feature work.
• Work across frontend and backend technologies while contributing to technical discussions, architecture understanding, and product alignment.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, knowledge sharing, interviews, and onboarding of new engineers.
• Apply DevOps practices, CI/CD, automation, observability, containerisation, testing, and security best practices.
• Participate in incident management rotas and provide technical support and clear communication during incidents.

Requirements

• Solid engineering experience with the ability to work independently on features across frontend and backend, including strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to adapt across front-end and back-end technologies and work with a modern technology stack.
• Familiarity with Java Spring Boot and AWS backend technologies, and TypeScript/React frontend technologies, or a comparable modern stack with willingness to move across technologies.
• Knowledge of microservices, APIs, cloud-based deployment, CI/CD, containerisation, DevOps practices, and security best practices.
• Good communication skills, constructive feedback habits, knowledge sharing, and the ability to document work and technical decisions.
• Experience in a product-led, agile software delivery environment.
• Some familiarity with incident management or on-call responsibilities.
• Interest in AI-assisted development tooling and its potential to improve productivity and code quality.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Kubernetes and Kafka.
• Experience in media, audio streaming, or consumer platforms.
