Senior Software Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Own work from requirements elaboration through design, implementation, testing, deployment, production operation, and support.
• Design and build low-latency, high-throughput Java services for accepting, routing, and managing orders throughout the order lifecycle.
• Build and maintain FIX sessions and venue-specific market connectivity, including certification and conformance testing.
• Model order and execution states, including order types, time-in-force, partial fills, amendments, cancellations, rejects, drop copies, reconciliation, and end-of-day processing.
• Ensure idempotency, ordering guarantees, deterministic replay, and complete auditable order-state histories; support on-call rotation and incident response during market hours.
• Contribute to design and code reviews, mentoring, observability, testing, tooling, AI-assisted development practices, and communication with traders, dealers, quants, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience building and running production backend systems in Java, with a recent LTS release such as Java 17 or 21 and modern language features.
• Deep JVM knowledge, including concurrency, the memory model, collections, allocation, garbage collection, profiling, latency, and throughput measurement.
• Knowledge of distributed-systems fundamentals, including messaging, delivery semantics, idempotency, ordering, backpressure, partial failure, and recovery.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, including deterministic or property-based approaches where appropriate.
• Solid SQL and relational data modelling, including schema evolution for systems that cannot lose or misstate orders.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, infrastructure as code, metrics, tracing, structured logging, alerting, and operating software in production.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences and the ability to lead design discussions with dealers and other stakeholders.
• Experience taking problems from vague requirements to monitored, documented, running software.
• Strongly preferred: hands-on experience with an OMS, EMS, PMS, or comparable buy-side or sell-side trading system; production FIX experience; other market connectivity; trading-domain knowledge; and understanding of regulatory requirements including MiFID II, best execution, reporting, audit trails, and surveillance.

Nice to have

• Experience with event sourcing and CQRS.
• Experience with Kotlin, Scala, or Clojure.
• Low-latency experience with lock-free data structures, off-heap or allocation-free design, Aeron, Chronicle, or LMAX Disruptor.
• Experience with Kafka or similar event streaming, Kubernetes, and AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with Python, C++, or Rust, particularly in a trading environment.
