Principal Engineer - Agentic Development (AI)

What you will do

• Collaborate with Product teams to translate early-stage ideas into structured proof of concepts and establish technical feasibility and scope.
• Produce detailed specifications and acceptance criteria for coding agents, taking ownership of the resulting code through deployment.
• Review agent-generated output against rigorous software architecture, testing, maintainability, and regulated-delivery standards.
• Work within the agentic harness using architectural rules, reference documentation, linters, fitness tests, verification loops, and LLM-based reviewers.
• Identify recurring agent errors and implement systemic controls with the harness team to prevent repeated failures.
• Maintain repository documentation and apply technical judgement to architecture, edge cases, latency, integration risk, auditability, and agent autonomy.

Requirements

• Demonstrable software engineering experience in large, complex codebases, with a strong foundation in software architecture, testing, and long-term maintainability.
• Practical experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Cursor, including their capabilities, limitations, and use in production workflows.
• Ability to evaluate agent-generated output, identify subtle errors or architectural weaknesses, and decide when to intervene in agent workflows.
• Ability to communicate technical requirements precisely through unambiguous, testable, and actionable specifications and definitions of done.
• Disciplined approach to verification, test coverage, correctness, and rigorous delivery in regulated and mission-critical contexts.
• Results-oriented delivery with accountability for the quality and correctness of shipped work.
• Familiarity with Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, AWS or Azure, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, ML model deployment, or real-time decisioning systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with spec-driven development, context engineering, or agent orchestration in a team environment.
• Knowledge of regulated or audited software delivery processes and controlled change management.
• Background in decisioning, credit risk, fraud detection, analytics, optimisation, or data engineering.
• Ability to articulate a considered approach to human-AI collaboration, including delegation boundaries, human oversight, and earning autonomy through demonstrated quality.
