Lead / Senior Cooling Systems Design Engineer

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid workplace. Remote-first setup with work from home anywhere hirify.global can employ candidates; in-person meetings take place twice a year.

What you will do

• Take cooling equipment from initial requirements through detailed engineering, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and production.
• Translate cooling loads, ambient conditions, temperature limits, space constraints, efficiency targets, and noise requirements into engineering specifications and design margins.
• Perform heat balances, heat-transfer, airflow, hydraulic, pressure-drop, and equipment-sizing calculations using realistic operating conditions and supplier data.
• Integrate cooling equipment into compact, high-density computing infrastructure, including air and liquid distribution, sensors, controls, and protection functions.
• Produce layouts, 3D assemblies, fabrication drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, refrigeration schematics, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
• Plan and execute prototype testing, compare measured performance with predictions, investigate discrepancies, and prepare commissioning and controlled production documentation.

Requirements

• Engineering degree in mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, refrigeration, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, with substantial equipment design expertise in dry cooling, compressor-based air conditioning and refrigeration, or both.
• Evidence of personally designed cooling systems supported through fabrication and successfully tested.
• Ability to turn calculations into manufacturable designs and complete, accurate engineering documentation.
• Experience designing equipment for applicable European and US requirements and collaborating across mechanical, electrical, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.
• Proficiency with relevant engineering calculation, equipment selection, simulation, and mechanical CAD tools, such as REFPROP, Güntner Product Calculator, Ansys Fluent, and SolidWorks. Equivalent tools are welcome; mastery of every listed package is not required.
• Understanding of the physics, assumptions, boundary conditions, and limitations behind calculations, including when further validation is needed.
