Operations Engineer, MetalDev (AI Infrastructure)

Location: New York, NY or Livingston, NJ; on-site work involving office and data center locations. Access to export-controlled information requires U.S. person status, eligibility without export authorization, or eligibility and reasonable likelihood of obtaining authorization.

Base salary: $109,000–$145,000 per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Support Redfish-based services and automation used to initialize, reboot, monitor, provision, and recover infrastructure at data center scale.
• Monitor fleet health, triage alerts and support requests, troubleshoot routine service and infrastructure issues, and perform approved remediation.
• Investigate problems across applications, Linux systems, networks, BMCs, NVIDIA GPU servers, DPUs, power equipment, and cooling infrastructure using logs, metrics, and diagnostics.
• Participate in incident response, on-call rotation after onboarding and readiness review, root-cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
• Improve Prometheus and Grafana dashboards, alerts, operational KPIs, runbooks, monitoring coverage, and remediation automation.
• Collaborate with Fleet Operations, Hardware Engineering, Service Engineering, and hardware and firmware vendors to reproduce issues, track resolution, and validate fixes.

Requirements

• At least two years of experience in technical support, systems administration, cloud operations, site reliability engineering, infrastructure operations, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Working knowledge of Linux system administration, including logs, processes, services, filesystems, networking fundamentals, and command-line troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and at least one public cloud platform or comparable distributed infrastructure environment.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, including familiarity with PromQL or a similar query language.
• Scripting experience in Bash or another shell scripting language.
• Experience troubleshooting software services, operating systems, networks, or physical infrastructure.
• Methodical problem-solving approach, strong documentation skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
• Experience participating in an on-call rotation or supporting time-sensitive production issues.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting Kubernetes applications or distributed production services.
• Experience with incident response, escalation, root-cause analysis, or post-incident reviews.
• Familiarity with servers, BMCs, Redfish, IPMI, server provisioning, or hardware lifecycle management.
• Exposure to GPU infrastructure, DPUs, high-performance computing, power systems, cooling systems, or data center operations.
• Experience improving dashboards, alerts, PromQL queries, runbooks, or operational automation.
• Experience collaborating with hardware or firmware vendors to investigate and validate fixes.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
