Senior Software Engineer - Frontend/Backend (Spring Boot)

What you will do

• Own contributions to an application codebase and support scope, schedule, delivery requirements, and the program's development strategy.
• Maintain sufficient understanding of adjacent technical ecosystems to coordinate system integrations.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in owned systems, using incidents to identify educational opportunities and system improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and help develop their technical skills.
• Communicate technical issues and developments to team members, clients, federal agency stakeholders, partners, and other engineers.
• Participate in technical interviews, propose and evaluate technical or process approaches, lead small projects when needed, and present design documents and system diagrams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience; relevant professional experience may substitute for education where permitted.
• Expert-level knowledge in at least one technical area: frontend engineering with Angular, JavaScript, and HTML/CSS, or backend engineering with Python, Java 21, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
• Expert-level knowledge of Spring Boot 4.
• Strong working knowledge of containerized microservices and AWS services including ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
• Experience building and consuming versioned RESTful APIs with published OpenAPI specifications.
• Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Git version control.
• Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and their application to frontend or backend development.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical decisions for non-technical audiences and federal agency stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with federal agency digital services or government contracting environments.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures using AWS SNS/SQS, Lambda, and Step Functions.
• Experience with consumer-driven contract testing using Pact or API contract governance across microservices.
• Experience with Maven, POM management, or Poetry.
• Exposure to SAFe or scaled Agile delivery frameworks, including PI planning and ART coordination.
