Mgr Safety

Location: Merrillville, Indiana, United States; onsite role with 25% travel, overtime, field observations, and possible emergency response support outside normal hours.

Salary: $113,500–$170,300 per year.

What you will do

• Manage and develop S&H professionals, allocate resources, assess direct-report skills, and lead safety project teams.
• Develop, implement, sustain, and improve statewide safety programs, policies, standards, procedures, committees, action plans, and management-system elements.
• Monitor safety performance data, leading and lagging indicators, loss events, near misses, audits, investigations, corrective actions, and root-cause analysis activities.
• Conduct field observations, consult with operations leaders, employees, and contractors, and recommend improvements to processes, designs, procedures, PPE, and operating equipment.
• Represent the company with regulatory agencies, support inspections and regulatory discussions, and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company requirements.
• Prepare reports and presentations, deliver safety training, coordinate contractors, and share lessons learned across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in safety or another S&H-related field; equivalent experience may substitute in part.
• At least five years of experience in occupational safety, environmental work, auditing, regulatory compliance, or related functional areas, or academic equivalent.
• At least two years of leadership experience.
• Thorough knowledge of state and federal S&H regulatory programs, including requirements relevant to natural gas distribution.
• Natural gas distribution-specific knowledge.
• Ability to work independently, use professional judgment, take direction from multiple sources, and work effectively on a team.
• Ability to compose technical information and prepare manuals, policies, procedures, and scripts.
• Effective verbal and written communication with employees at all organizational levels and with external organizations.
• Computer and modern office equipment proficiency, strong problem-solving capabilities, leadership ability, and integrity.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.
• Motor vehicle check required.
• Overtime and 25% travel required.

Nice to have

• CSP, CHI, or similar safety certifications.
