Controls Engineer, Switchboards

Location: On-site in the United States, based out of an office in Long Beach, California or Houston, Texas. In-person work is required.

What you will do

• Provide technical expertise during bidding, proposal development, pre-purchase-order work, and post-purchase-order engineering reviews.
• Prepare customer electrical submittal packages, including single-line diagrams, breaker schedules, wiring schematics, electrical datasheets, bills of materials, and factory acceptance testing protocols.
• Design power panels from concept through production-ready documentation and collaborate with mechanical engineering on switchboard enclosure integration.
• Develop manufacturing packages, support procurement of electrical components, and provide hands-on guidance to assembly and production teams.
• Train, mentor, and audit quality testing teams on ground loop, hi-pot, electrical functionality, breaker programming, trip unit, 480VAC live-power, and enclosure close-up procedures.
• Support customer witness tests, post-delivery installation and operation, field troubleshooting, and technical customer service remotely or on-site.

Requirements

• Strong electrical engineering background with hands-on experience in switchboard or power distribution systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical schematic development.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with sales, production, quality, customers, and field teams.
• Ability to mentor and train technical teams.
• Problem-solving mindset focused on quality and customer satisfaction.
• Knowledge of UL standards, including UL 891, UL 67, and UL 1558, and related testing protocols.
• Experience working in a UL 891 shop environment with hands-on testing experience.
