Electrical Engineer, Level 2 (Industrial Controls)

Location: Grand Rapids, MI, US; onsite role with regular movement through production and test areas and occasional travel.

What you will do

• Independently design control panels and power-distribution systems for custom environmental test chambers, including component sizing, protection devices, wiring, and panel layouts.
• Create and release electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, wire data, design packages, production documentation, and service documentation using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical.
• Integrate PLC hardware, sensors, motors, heaters, VFDs, instrumentation, and related control components.
• Coordinate electrical design details with Sales Release, Mechanical Design, and Senior Engineers; design releases are reviewed and approved by a Level 3 engineer or Engineering Team Leader.
• Support production, panel assembly, testing, troubleshooting, corrective actions, installation, and field support.
• Improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and serviceability while maintaining project records and ERP/MRP data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 3–10 years of electrical engineering or industrial controls experience, including electrical designs and documentation for industrial equipment.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical schematic development.
• Knowledge of industrial power distribution, multi-phase AC systems, controls, PLC hardware, instrumentation, and control components.
• Ability to read, interpret, and write technical instructions, specifications, and documentation.
• Ability to define problems, evaluate data, implement controlled design corrections, and manage multiple priorities.
• Basic understanding of refrigeration cycles, core components, and physical properties.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to perform primarily desk-based computer work with regular production and test-area movement, frequent lifting up to 10 lb., occasional lifting up to 50 lb., and occasional climbing, bending, and squatting.

Nice to have

• AutoCAD Electrical and ERP/MRP experience for BOM and production data management; SAP experience is a plus.
• Hands-on exposure to wiring, panel assembly, testing, and electrical-system troubleshooting.
• Experience writing and interpreting PLC logic and control systems; ladder logic and function block PLC experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, and UL compliance standards; UL 508A familiarity is preferred.
