Staff and Principal Software Engineers

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, CA or Boston, MA

Salary: $220,000–$290,000 per year, plus equity and bonus

What you will do

• Own significant technical domains end to end, including architecture, implementation, and long-term system health.
• Design and operate scalable backend systems, data pipelines, storage, and query infrastructure.
• Build AI telemetry agents, Kubernetes metric agents, billing connectors, and AI data ingestion pipelines.
• Develop customer-facing cost intelligence, identity, authentication, optimization, anomaly detection, and notification features.
• Make high-impact technical decisions and collaborate with product, engineering leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability while mentoring engineers through reviews and design feedback.

Requirements

• Significant experience building and operating production backend systems at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or another backend language, with the ability to reason about unfamiliar systems.
• Deep familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, distributed systems, and scalability tradeoffs.
• Production experience with data pipelines, ETL frameworks, or stream processing.
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
• Hands-on use of AI tools in data platform work, experience building reusable systems adopted by internal teams, and a track record of shipping.

Nice to have

• Experience with agents, telemetry systems, or observability tooling.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes in customer-managed environments.
• Experience with AWS Step Functions, Lambda, or event-driven architectures.
• Background in FinOps, billing systems, financial data infrastructure, ML pipelines, or AI workload cost modeling.
