Spanish Patent Language Lead

What you will do

• Perform copy-editing and on-demand translation for assigned projects and accounts.
• Lead linguist activities and take ownership of deliveries translated internally or by external partners into Spanish.
• Prepare, manage, and maintain glossaries, style guides, and work instructions in line with account and project quality standards.
• Manage project queries, terminology questions, linguistic issues, and communication with clients.
• Coordinate, test, qualify, develop, and train internal linguists, freelancers, and vendors.
• Support process improvements and meet productivity, quality, on-time delivery, and team goals.

Requirements

• University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, Linguistic Studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Equivalent paths include a university degree in another field plus 2 years of full-time translation experience, or 5 years of full-time professional translation experience.
• Native-level Spanish and fluent written and spoken English.
• Patent translation experience and patent knowledge are critical. Relevant patent document subject areas include computer science, mechanics, biology, electricity, pharmacy, and chemistry.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in translation, localization, editing, or content writing, including at least 5 years of review experience.
• Thorough understanding of the localization process and excellent knowledge of terminology across various subject matters.
• Subject-matter expertise within the organization for assigned content specialties, service lines, and processes.
• Excellent user experience with standard CAT tools such as XTM and SDL Studio, issue-tracking and query-management tools such as JIRA, and Windows and Office applications.
• Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly, provide clear and constructive feedback, coordinate internal and external translators, and train or teach others.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and linguists.
• Ability to work with tight deadlines, solve problems, handle practical situations with limited standardization, communicate with customers at various levels, and work effectively in a virtual team.
