Linguist - German to English

Location: Fully remote anywhere in the UK.

What you will do

• Translate and perform MT post-editing of intellectual-property documents from German to English.
• Read, revise, edit, and evaluate translations for meaning, accuracy, terminology, grammar, style, tone, syntax, and compliance with client and country-specific publication requirements.
• Conduct translation quality control and provide support and guidance to in-country translators and translation vendors.
• Manage translation memories and term bases using hirify.global’s internal system and CAT tools.
• Provide training to new staff after becoming fully trained and contribute to special projects and other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in languages, translation, or a technical discipline, or excellent command of the source and target languages.
• C2-level German and English.
• Experience with CAT tools such as Trados or equivalent.
• Ability to understand difficult source-language texts across a wide range of subject matters.
• Knowledge of editing and proofreading best practices, including detecting errors in meaning, usage, terminology, spelling, grammar, style, tone, and syntax.
• Ability to follow country-specific editing guidelines and formats.
• Meticulous attention to detail, prioritization, deadline management, research, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate as part of a team, take initiative, and complete assignments.
• At least one year of professional translation experience would be ideal.

Nice to have

• Additional non-English language skills, especially French, Italian, or Spanish.
