Interaction Designer (SC Eligible/SC Cleared)

What you will do

• Design end-to-end journeys for finding guidance, using decision-support tools, and contributing material.
• Prototype and test designs with council users, then iterate based on evidence.
• Design within WordPress themes, templates, and block editor constraints, and document reusable patterns where needed.
• Apply GOV.UK Design System patterns where supported by the selected platform.
• Ensure designs meet WCAG 2.2 AA and work across devices used by councils.
• Collaborate with content designers and developers, participate in design reviews, and document design decisions for handover.

Requirements

• SC cleared, active SC, or SC eligible.
• Demonstrable experience designing and shipping interaction design for complex digital services.
• Experience designing WordPress sites, including themes, templates, and the block editor, with an understanding of configuration constraints.
• Experience with prototyping and usability testing.
• Understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
• Ability to explain design decisions to stakeholders and collaborate across disciplines.
• A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work and the evidence behind it.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of the GOV.UK Design System, Prototype Kit, and Service Manual.
• Experience in UK government or the wider public sector, including service assessments.
• Experience designing knowledge-sharing or community-contribution products.
• Experience designing decision-support tools such as checklists, planners, and frameworks.
• Familiarity with working alongside user researchers.
