Senior Staff Engineer (Shipping)

What you will do

• Own technical strategy across the multi-team Shipping domain, including labels, carrier integrations, tracking, and delivery predictions.
• Lead architecture and execution for the Shipping Partner Platform and shipping workflows across Admin, Core, and Shipify.
• Build and evolve the Package Tracking streaming pipeline with Flink to improve tracking updates.
• Develop models and state machines to parse raw tracking data and predict delivery dates, package location and state, and suggested actions.
• Build fraud detection models, scalable data pipelines, and reliable feature-data systems for downstream modeling.
• Improve reliability, performance, observability, incident response, and operational practices while mentoring technical leaders and aligning with senior leaders.

Requirements

• Ability to lead across teams and systems, particularly in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Strong architecture and execution skills in complex domains with multiple integrations and workflows.
• Strong experience with streaming and data processing systems; Flink is preferred.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines and ensuring high-quality feature data for downstream consumers.
• Strong production engineering fundamentals, including reliability, observability, incident response, and performance.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to set direction, influence, and mentor across an organization.

Nice to have

• Experience with shipping or logistics domains, including carrier integrations, labeling, tracking, or delivery predictions.
• Experience with fraud detection systems and modeling.
• Experience designing state machines for event-driven systems and noisy external data sources.
• Experience operating systems at very large scale with high event volumes and high reliability requirements.
