Staff Software Engineer (AI Platform)

Location: Munich, Germany; hybrid workplace with regular in-person co-working in Berlin and Munich

What you will do

• Build and own the common runtime behind hirify.global’s agentic products.
• Develop agent context, tools, state, memory, retries, and resumability.
• Implement permissions, tenancy, validation, human approvals, and audit trails.
• Build evaluations and observability to reproduce, measure, and debug agent behavior.
• Create robust patterns for email, documents, APIs, browser-based systems, and hirify.global actions.
• Turn successful customer workflows into reusable platform capabilities while writing production code.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent depth.
• Experience owning production systems, including architecture, APIs, data models, reliability, observability, and incidents.
• Experience operating at Senior, Staff, Principal, strong Founding Engineer, or equivalent technical-ownership level.
• Experience building LLM or agent workflows that run in production, beyond prompts and API calls.
• Understanding of tool calling, structured outputs, state, retries, evaluations, permissions, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Strong backend fundamentals in databases, APIs, authentication and authorization, background jobs, and failure handling.
• Coding agents are already a meaningful part of the working process.
• Willingness to write substantial production code personally.
• Ability to work with Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL; Rails experience is useful but not required.

Nice to have

• Background as a Staff or Principal Backend/Platform Engineer at a strong SaaS company, a Founding Engineer at an AI-native startup, an Applied AI Engineer with strong software-engineering depth, or a platform engineer from workflow automation, fintech, or a similar high-consequence environment.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails.
