Property General Adjuster

Location: Fully remote within Selective's United States footprint, including the Heartland, Mid-Atlantic, Northwest, and Southern regions; must reside nearby or relocate at personal expense. The role includes regional travel, CAT deployments of at least two weeks, and approximately 25–50% car travel.

Base salary: USD $96,000–$125,000 per year, depending on geographic location and qualifications.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, and resolve large and complex commercial and residential property and inland marine claims, generally involving exposures of $100,000 or more.
• Make coverage determinations, negotiate, reserve, and settle claims within established authority, including complex business income losses.
• Estimate property damage, obtain claim documentation, select and deploy experts, and manage vendors and related expenses.
• Prepare significant-exposure reports for Claims leadership, Underwriting, Reinsurance, and Actuarial, including timely referrals and updates to reinsurers.
• Assist with CAT deployments, handle claims across assigned and other regions as needed, and work varying shifts.
• Report cases proceeding to trial and attend litigation or trial proceedings when summoned or requested.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of property claims experience.
• Thorough knowledge of Commercial and Personal Lines coverages.
• Experience with Xactimate or other computer-based damage estimating software.
• Effective verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies, contracts, and leases and identify technical and legal issues while developing solutions.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and claim-specific software.
• Valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile.
• Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits.
• Ability to work varying shifts.
