Financial Controller (Defence)

Location: Fareham, United Kingdom; security clearance and UK working-rights verification required.

What you will do

• Own and coordinate month-end close routines, journals, accruals, allocations, accounting outputs and close procedures.
• Lead reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, investigation of unusual or unsupported balances, and documented resolution of accounting issues.
• Validate corporate-function reporting, analyse trends and risks, and ensure reporting reconciles to accounting records with evidenced controls.
• Coordinate VAT returns, PAYE compliance, payroll journals, P11D information and assigned tax and internal-control activities.
• Coordinate audits, schedules, statutory-account support, evidence collection, audit actions and remediation tracking.
• Work with Accounting Services in Sweden to improve processes, controls, reporting quality, efficiency and scalability, while providing assurance to the Head of Finance.

Requirements

• Recognised professional accountancy qualification.
• Significant hands-on financial accounting or financial control experience, including ownership of closing tasks, reconciliations and balance sheet review.
• Practical experience with relevant UK VAT, PAYE and payroll accounting processes.
• Experience coordinating audits and a strong understanding of accounting integrity.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in spreadsheets.
• Ability to coordinate colleagues, communicate clearly, exercise sound judgement and manage deadlines in a disciplined manner.
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements, challenge existing ways of working and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills and ability to work with shared-service organisations and cross-functional teams.
• Commercial awareness, focus on cost control, efficiency and value creation, and a proactive continuous-improvement mindset.
• Already hold or be able to gain Security Clearance; preferred candidates must complete workforce screening, including security checks, working-rights verification and a security interview.
