Senior Python Engineer (Python)

Location: Hybrid in London, UK; candidates must already be based in London or surrounding areas.

Salary: £80,000–£120,000 per annum.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, maintain, and optimize Python applications and backend solutions.
• Write, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries involving joins, nested queries, CTEs, window functions, and aggregations.
• Retrieve, transform, validate, and process large volumes of data in relational databases.
• Develop Linux scripts, automation tasks, and batch-processing jobs, and work with Apache Kafka for event-driven processing and data streaming.
• Monitor application performance, investigate production issues, support releases, and provide technical resolutions.
• Collaborate with developers, data engineers, business analysts, and other stakeholders while following coding, testing, version-control, and deployment practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in software development, data engineering, or a related technical role.
• Strong Python programming skills, including scripting, automation, debugging, and application development.
• Mandatory advanced SQL expertise, including multi-table joins, nested queries, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Good Linux/Unix experience with commands, shell scripting, process management, log analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Practical Apache Kafka experience with topics, producers, consumers, message processing, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or MySQL.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Experience with Git or another version control system.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-volume data processing and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Kafka consumer groups, offsets, partitions, and message delivery semantics.
• Experience with performance tuning, production support, and root-cause analysis.
• Knowledge of REST APIs, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
