Backend Engineer (Biotech)

What you will do

• Build backend systems that make the automated laboratory programmable.
• Architect data pipelines for large-scale protein characterization data, including binding kinetics, enzyme activity, and chromatography measurements.
• Design APIs integrating laboratory instruments, robotics, and scheduling systems.
• Translate complex molecular biology workflows into reliable, scalable software.
• Work with scientists and automation engineers to support AI-driven wet-lab experimentation.

Requirements

• Strong experience designing and building production backend systems.
• Ability to architect reliable and maintainable software; the backend stack includes Python, TypeScript, and Postgres.
• Experience building data pipelines and processing infrastructure for large volumes of heterogeneous physical-instrument data.
• Comfort with API design and systems integration, including connecting instruments, robotics, and scheduling systems.
• Genuine interest in biology; previous biology experience is not required.
• High autonomy and a founder mindset, with the ability to identify priorities and act independently.
• Pragmatic approach focused on solving problems effectively rather than prioritizing a particular stack or tool.
• Ability to use AI for coding while having enough software experience to evaluate code quality and architecture.
