Engineering Team Lead (AI)

Location: London, UK; hybrid with onsite attendance at the London office 1–3 days per week.

Salary: £90,000–£100,000 per year, plus bonus scheme.

What you will do

• Lead up to four engineers in a cross-functional agile team developing the Virtual Personas AI platform.
• Deliver the product roadmap and help set the technical direction for the product.
• Contribute to full-stack development across Python/FastAPI services and React/TypeScript front ends.
• Build scalable, flexible systems using Azure, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis and multi-provider LLM integrations.
• Establish automated testing, test-first development and CI quality gates for a fast-moving AI product.
• Mentor developers, run one-to-ones, set objectives, manage delivery and engage directly with customers and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Experience leading agile teams through rapid-release iterations and launching and scaling new products.
• Extensive experience with Python and modern asynchronous web frameworks, or closely related languages.
• Hands-on experience building or maintaining LLM-powered applications, including prompt design, multi-provider integration and agent orchestration.
• Strong relational database experience, with practical knowledge of PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Redis.
• Experience with automated testing, CI quality gates, scalable architecture and secure AI development, including protection against prompt injection.
• Comfort working with ambiguity, changing priorities, AI-assisted development tools and cross-functional stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with FastAPI, async SQLAlchemy, Node/Express or React/TypeScript.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Azure services or AWS equivalents.
• Familiarity with LLM observability, evaluation tooling and resilience patterns for third-party AI providers.
• Awareness of GDPR, the EU AI Act, data protection and AI transparency considerations.
• Informal leadership, formal management or cross-team stakeholder experience.
