Senior Software Engineer – Storage

Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week in an HPE office in Durham, North Carolina, or Andover, Massachusetts, United States.

Salary: Annual base salary of USD 143,000–273,000 in Massachusetts or USD 126,500–290,500 in North Carolina. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design and develop storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure for the HPE Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform.
• Implement scalable, highly concurrent solutions using modern C++ in Linux environments.
• Investigate and resolve functional, reliability, and performance issues with profiling and diagnostic tools.
• Design distributed storage features focused on availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams and participate in design, code, and test reviews.
• Develop automated tests and validation frameworks, evaluate technologies that improve storage capabilities, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Typically 6–10 years of experience.
• Extensive experience with multiple software system design tools and programming languages.
• Strong C++ skills, including STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts, plus Python.
• Experience with systems, distributed systems, or embedded systems; Linux operating system concepts, including CPU, memory, and system architecture.
• Experience with multithreaded programming using mutexes and locks, algorithms, data structures, performant code, and debugging or profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
• Experience in software system architecture, integrating software systems across multiple platform types, and evaluating software testing methodologies, test plans, scripts, and tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; mastery of English and the local language, including the ability to communicate architectures, present design proposals, and negotiate options with senior management.

Nice to have

• Experience with file systems, storage, data path work, or systems infrastructure code.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes.
