Staff Software Engineer (Java, Core Identity)

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Salary: CAD 160,000–220,000 annual base salary for candidates located in Canada.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and deploy features and services in the core Java platform for device identity and access.
• Build and scale server-side software supporting continuous authentication, device lifecycle management, and trust and assurance signals.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and QA to deliver critical engineering initiatives.
• Define engineering practices and contribute to technical designs, proposals, and long-term architecture.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance while maintaining high standards for quality and security.
• Improve automated testing, CI/CD strategies, technical documentation, and AI-native engineering practices using AI coding assistants.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience, including designing and building scalable, high-performance server-side features using Java and Spring.
• Deep expertise with high-performance Postgres or MySQL environments, including schema design and query optimization.
• Extensive experience designing, building, and securing RESTful APIs for large-scale systems.
• Expert knowledge of server-side technologies, including caching, asynchronous processing, and multithreading.
• Deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
• Experience in fast-paced agile environments and strong knowledge of CI/CD and automated testing.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and influence technical direction.
• Proficiency with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, while maintaining high standards for code quality and security.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies, including FIDO, U2F, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, and Federation.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, or certifications such as CISSP or Security+.
• Experience with UI technologies such as React.
• Exposure to gRPC API development.
• Exposure to microservice architecture.
