Software Developer Specialist (Java)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid work environment with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Base pay: $96,000–$132,000 per year, plus annual bonus/commission, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend software applications supporting critical financial market infrastructure.
• Translate business and product requirements into scalable and reliable software solutions with product managers and cross-functional teams.
• Act as a technical expert, conduct code reviews, and contribute to software design discussions.
• Support, maintain, and document software functionality to ensure operational excellence and continuity.
• Mentor and guide junior team members while sharing technical knowledge.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 6 years of experience as a Java software engineer.
• Proficiency in AWS, SQL, RESTful APIs, Spring, and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Maven and Git, with strong working knowledge of Linux and Bash scripting.
• Clear communication, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams.
• At least 8 years of overall experience.
• Further qualifications or certifications across specialist disciplines relevant to the role.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with big data tools, data lakes, or data warehousing concepts.
• Interest in or exposure to financial markets, fintech, or capital markets technology.
• A second degree or master’s degree in a specialized area such as financial markets, finance, or mathematics.
