Intermediate Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid; must reside within commutable distance of the specified offices in Mississauga, Toronto, Kitchener, Waterloo, or Cambridge, Canada. Weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly office attendance is required.

Salary: CAD 112,000–125,000 per year, plus bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Identify, prioritize, and execute software development lifecycle tasks.
• Work with business stakeholders to iterate on software requirements.
• Develop clean, efficient tools and applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting, and analyze and debug systems.
• Perform validation and verification testing using a test-driven approach.
• Review code, collaborate with internal teams and vendors, and improve product reliability and technology currency.

Requirements

• Experience writing clean, scalable Java code and proven experience as an engineer.
• Experience with Spring Boot.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases, including Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL, and solid experience developing RESTful API endpoints.
• Working knowledge of test-driven development and automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or RestAssured.
• Proficiency with Git and system or performance monitoring tools such as New Relic or Datadog.
• Excellent organization, critical-thinking, personal leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate as a team player.
• BSc or BA in Computer Science or a related degree.

Nice to have

• Use of generative AI code assistants such as GitHub Copilot and knowledge of current generative AI model capabilities.
• Experience with UI development, React, Angular, or Selenium automation.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Ansible, Jenkins CI/CD, AWS, Azure, or equivalent cloud services.
• Linux and IP networking knowledge.
• Experience with SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect.
• Experience working on a SaaS product and with service-oriented architecture.
• Knowledge of Python, Bash, or Groovy scripting.
• On-call experience with production-grade systems.
