Software Engineer I

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work with two days in the office each week.

Salary: CAD 88,821–106,590 per year.

What you will do

• Build new features for the Oracle data pipeline service and improve its software architecture.
• Debug data replication issues by analyzing code used by hundreds of customers, including customers operating very large Oracle clusters.
• Analyze new Oracle releases and determine how to develop supporting features.
• Maintain and improve existing connectors and contribute improvements across the codebase and infrastructure.
• Help move a high-performance client-side service to the cloud and operate it at scale.
• Develop software designs and technical roadmaps for the team.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of programming experience in Java or C.
• Ability to write well-structured, performant code, analyze existing code, and suggest improvements.
• Understanding of how to build high-performance systems and processes, with an analytical approach to identifying design flaws and improvements.
• At least 1 year of experience working in a cloud environment using AWS, GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, CircleCI, or similar technologies.
• At least 1 year of infrastructure-as-code experience with Docker/Kubernetes, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Google Cloud Deployment Manager, or equivalent.
• Ability to define project requirements, design software and infrastructure, and break down customer requirements or problems into engineering tasks.
• Experience working in large distributed teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with database internals, including storage formats, compression, encryption, disaster recovery, transaction management, or high availability.
• Experience designing and developing file, event, application, or database connectors.
• Advanced Java development experience, including multithreading, multitasking, asynchronous programming, or garbage collector tuning.
• Experience setting up, maintaining, and tuning production Oracle RDBMS.
