Engineering Manager (Platform)

Location: Remote in Europe or the United States

Salary: $205,000–$250,000 annually for roles based in the United States; premium market ranges may apply in certain locations.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, recruit, and develop a high-performing Platform team while maintaining an inclusive, autonomous, and psychologically safe culture.
• Own the platform surface, including API gateways and standards, shared services, deployment and infrastructure patterns, CI and testing, local developer experience, disaster recovery, and Control Plane observability.
• Drive platform adoption and delivery velocity for integrating engineering teams, including cross-organizational migrations, deprecations, and contract changes.
• Guide architecture, RFCs, technical trade-offs, and complex designs involving gateway routing, authentication, RBAC, code generation, event delivery, idempotency, and multi-region rollout safety.
• Own SLOs, reliability, on-call quality, cost efficiency, support processes, and self-healing capabilities for Kubernetes-hosted, multi-tenant services across cloud regions.
• Shape the platform vision and roadmap, sequence work for business impact, and deliver through tight feedback loops.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience and 3+ years managing software engineers, with a record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong talent.
• Experience leading a platform or infrastructure team serving other engineering teams, driving adoption and cross-organizational migrations through influence and effective tooling.
• Experience leading distributed global teams and building an inclusive, autonomous culture across time zones.
• Experience building scalable, highly available, and secure AWS infrastructure using EKS, SQS, DocumentDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Lambda, with Terraform or Helm and progressive delivery such as Argo Rollouts.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including hosting many independently deployed applications in a shared cluster.
• Familiarity with API platforms, OpenAPI-driven contracts, API gateways, authentication, RBAC, rate limiting, versioning, and deprecation.
• Experience decomposing a monolith into independently deployable services without stalling product delivery.
• Technical credibility in architecture and incident response, plus hands-on involvement in code and design reviews for complex or critical areas.
• Strong execution judgment across ambiguity, parallel workstreams, risk, and long-term system health.

Nice to have

• Experience with large TypeScript/Node monorepos, CI scale and flakiness, build and test performance, local development environments, and specification-based code generation.
• Experience designing load balancing, auto-scaling, disaster recovery, and failover strategies for cloud environments.
• Experience building CI/CD at scale and internal developer platforms with service catalogs, golden-path templates, and self-service application scaffolding.
• Proficiency with React.
• Experience making APIs consumable by AI agents through MCP servers, CLIs, or skills generated from API specifications.
• Experience with ClickHouse and with analytics or data-intensive applications.
