Software Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: US remote eligible; candidates must live in an approved state: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, or Washington. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $212,000–$265,000 USD base pay per year, with potential eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Build and operate cloud-native infrastructure using public cloud technologies.
• Develop developer APIs and CLIs, Kubernetes infrastructure, autoscaling and capacity management tools, and cloud infrastructure automation.
• Deliver secure, efficient, mature, and highly available platforms that simplify infrastructure complexity.
• Optimize existing systems and services for performance and operational efficiency.
• Improve availability through distributed-systems best practices and collaborate with infrastructure engineers across the organization.

Requirements

• Expertise operating Kubernetes at scale with a proven track record.
• 10+ years of industry experience, with a BS or Master's degree and 2+ years with a PhD in computer science preferred, or equivalent experience.
• Experience developing and operating large-scale technical projects with experienced engineers.
• Expertise with AWS, GCP, or Azure and their IaaS offerings, such as EC2.
• Familiarity with Docker, containerization, and orchestration technologies.
• Strong ownership, full-cycle development experience, production debugging skills, problem-solving ability, and cross-team communication.
