Engineering Manager, Platform

Location: Austin, Texas; hybrid with in-office work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. U.S.-based candidates must reside in one of the approved states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming.

Salary: $210,000–$225,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Manage infrastructure, security, site reliability, and data engineers through recruiting, coaching, career development, and performance management.
• Define platform technical direction and roadmap while balancing long-term investments with operational needs, partner requests, and delivery commitments.
• Guide cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, deployment systems, shared services, observability, incident response, disaster recovery, and cost management.
• Support secure development practices, security tooling, guardrails, vulnerability remediation, and compliance initiatives.
• Guide reliable data pipelines and governed data access for analytics, business operations, and machine learning.
• Deliver shared tooling, self-service capabilities, engineering standards, and AI-assisted automation to improve developer productivity.

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering management experience, including management of platform, infrastructure, or reliability teams.
• Experience recruiting, coaching, developing careers, and managing performance.
• 8+ years across engineering and engineering management roles, including substantial hands-on technical work and experience building or operating production systems.
• Architectural judgment and the ability to guide specialists across multiple technical disciplines.
• Experience with AWS or a comparable cloud platform, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, networking, and production databases.
• Experience improving reliability, incident response, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Familiarity with application and cloud security, secure development practices, vulnerability management, SOC 2 or similar compliance programs, and modern data platforms.
• Ability to assess tradeoffs, set priorities with domain experts, communicate technical priorities and risks clearly, and lead distributed teams with ownership and accountability.
