Project Engineer I (Power Systems)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, United States; onsite role with at least 25% domestic and international travel based on the focus area.

Salary: $89,400–$134,100 per year.

What you will do

• Apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures related to the assigned power system focus area and SEL products.
• Train and assist customers with creating, designing, configuring, validating, installing, commissioning, and operating automation and protection systems.
• Complete assigned work within agreed scope, schedule, and budget while maintaining quality and safety.
• Participate in preparing functional design specifications and maintain design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.
• Apply SEL values, operating principles, and World Class Manufacturing principles.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• At least 2 years of relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and focus-area practices and philosophies.
• Good knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation, and communications applications.
• Working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology, and protective relay applications.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally at least 25% based on the focus area.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills; ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Satisfactory background check results and negative drug test results.

Nice to have

• Engineer in Training certificate.
• Experience in an electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator environment.
• Project engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of Vision or other project management tracking software.
• Focus-area experience in protection, automation, design, studies, commissioning, security, networking, or project management.
• Relevant knowledge may include PLCs, IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus, Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, SCADA, industrial control system networking and security, NERC/CIP, NIST SP800, PSSE, ETAP, and/or RTDS.
