SCADA & Automation Engineer (Data Centers)

Location: Fully remote or local/in-office in Lakewood, Colorado, USA; periodic travel for field assignments across states is required, typically 15–25%. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

• Design electrical power systems, including one-line and three-line diagrams, control and relay schematics, wiring, SCADA, communications, grounding, equipment selection, and specifications.
• Set, wire, install, configure, test, and commission SEL relaying and control equipment, SEL RTACs, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
• Configure IEC61850 GOOSE, DNP3, MODBUS, and other SCADA protocols and produce related configuration files.
• Prepare project specifications, RFIs, studies, reports, network architecture diagrams, and other engineering documentation.
• Perform field testing, commissioning, inspection, troubleshooting, and field assistance for substation and data center control systems.
• Check the work of designers, drafters, and field service personnel for quality and accuracy while supporting client and contractor communication.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution; an electric power option is preferred.
• 2–5 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
• Knowledge of medium- and high-voltage power systems and strong knowledge of SCADA.
• Experience configuring, testing, and commissioning IEC61850, DNP3, MODBUS, and/or other SCADA protocols.
• Experience with SEL equipment installation and configuration and creating network architecture diagrams.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Previous interaction with clients, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders, including communication related to assignments and meetings.
• Effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, and people skills.
• Ability to travel periodically for weeks across states for field work; ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required.

Nice to have

• FE licensure.
• SEL RTAC experience.
• Experience with substation or data center medium-voltage equipment.
• Experience with grid-connected or islanded microgrid control operation, including generator controls and load-balancing schemes.
