Business Intelligence Developer Internship - Summer 2027 (Insurance)

Location: In person in Lansing, Michigan, United States. The internship has full-time hours from Monday through Friday, although the employment type is listed as part time. Start and end dates are flexible; most interns start in mid-May and stay until mid-August.

Work authorization: Must be able to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

What you will do

• Create reports, data extracts, and analyses supporting business functions and inquiries.
• Build, maintain, and document code for transforming, aggregating, and presenting data.
• Learn and apply tools and techniques for designing and implementing business intelligence solutions.
• Develop an understanding of data sources and data flows.
• Communicate effectively with employees through verbal and written communication.
• Participate in formal and informal training sessions.

Requirements

• Work toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related quantitative discipline, with at least two years of coursework completed.
• Master’s students are considered if graduation is in August 2027 or later.
• High aptitude for mathematics and statistics.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL, Python, or other programming, database, or statistical languages.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting and dashboarding solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to constant change and innovation.

Nice to have

• Actuarial studies and exams are considered but are not required.
