Software Development Engineer for Flight Physics Capabilities / Loads & Aeroelastics (Aerospace)

Location: Hamburg Area, with possible locations in Bremen, Germany, or Filton, UK; regular on-site presence at the chosen location is required.

What you will do

• Design, code, test, deploy, and continuously enhance in-house simulation software for aircraft loads and aeroelastics.
• Implement advanced numerical methods and physical models in clean, high-performance, modular code.
• Translate aerodynamic and structural load requirements into efficient software algorithms in collaboration with Flight Physics loads engineers.
• Provide technical support to internal engineering users, troubleshoot simulation issues, and improve performance and usability.
• Apply peer reviews, CI/CD, version control, and comprehensive testing to maintain simulation accuracy and code reliability.

Requirements

• Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautics, Computational Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with a solid understanding of flight physics, aircraft loads, or structural mechanics.
• Strong coding abilities and solid experience with object-oriented programming using Python, C++, or C#.
• Experience working in Linux environments.
• Solid foundation in Git/version control, unit testing, and CI/CD practices.
• Passion for translating physical engineering problems into robust, automated software tools.
• Excellent communication skills in English and good German speaking skills.
• Open, collaborative approach to working in an international engineering team.

Nice to have

• Practical knowledge of High-Performance Computing, parallel computing, or aeroelastic simulation workflows.
