Software Engineer (Python)

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work model with flexible working hours.

hirify.global develops satellite analytics applications using deep learning, geospatial data, and other data sources to help companies and governments fight deforestation, monitor critical infrastructure, and respond to natural disasters.

What you will do

• Own the maintenance, performance, scalability, data models, APIs, and storage of core Python backend services.
• Maintain visibility into the health of the end-to-end product pipeline and ensure regressions and failures are detected early.
• Build monitoring, alerting, automated quality checks, and cross-service testing practices.
• Stabilize service interfaces by identifying schema drift, contract failures, and version incompatibilities.
• Improve release safety through backward compatibility, feature flags, staged rollouts, and workflow automation.
• Turn system behavior into improvement work, contribute to planning, and mentor engineers through code review and pairing.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building and operating production backend services or data pipelines in Python.
• Experience maintaining and scaling production services, including performance work, observability, testing, and incident handling.
• Strong relational database skills and confidence with API design and service-to-service contracts.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes, including troubleshooting and incident response.
• Regular practical use of AI-assisted coding in day-to-day engineering work.

Nice to have

• Geospatial data experience, including PostGIS or similar technologies.
• Experience with raster processing or satellite imagery.
• Spec-driven or test-driven development, including agentic approaches.
• Experience with workflow orchestrators such as Prefect or Airflow.
• Experience running workloads on AWS.
• Experience working across multiple teams on shared interfaces or contracts.
