Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Maryland, United States. Applicants must already hold a TS/SCI clearance with a current Full Scope Polygraph. Clearance sponsorship or processing is not available.

Salary: $163,000–$178,000 per year, plus $41,000–$44,000 in immediately vested company 401(k) contributions.

What you will do

• Gather requirements with training staff and stakeholders and identify process bottlenecks.
• Implement and test AI-driven solutions that streamline readiness and certification workflows under senior-engineer guidance.
• Configure AI harnesses and develop and maintain custom Skills and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers connecting AI workflows with organizational data and tools.
• Contribute to prototyping, coding, testing, and delivery of assigned features across the development lifecycle.
• Build and maintain automation scripts and tools with Python and Bash.
• Use AI tools to support JQS and TQS documentation, and write technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.

Requirements

• Current TS/SCI clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph is required before applying; candidates seeking to obtain a clearance do not meet the minimum requirements.
• Three years of experience and either a B.S. in a technical discipline or four additional years of experience in place of the degree.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language; Python or Bash is preferred.
• Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including Git, testing, and debugging.
• Basic knowledge of operating systems and networking concepts.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM tools and interest in applying them to automate routine tasks.
• Ability to write clear, organized technical documentation.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from senior engineers and subject-matter experts.

Nice to have

• Experience or coursework with AI harnesses and agentic workflows, including Skills or MCP servers.
• Exposure to systems engineering concepts from design through delivery.
• Experience with C++.
• Familiarity with LLM prompt engineering, evaluation, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Familiarity with web development frameworks such as React and TypeScript for user-facing tools.
• Exposure to Job Qualification Standards (JQS) or other training and certification documents.
