Claims Specialist Make an impact (Casualty Insurance)

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia; hybrid work with an expectation to be in the office at least three days per week.

What you will do

• Independently manage a portfolio of Financial & Professional Lines claims from notification through resolution.
• Assess coverage, liability, quantum, reserves, litigation risks, and settlement opportunities.
• Develop claim strategies, monitor progression, maintain accurate records, and meet regulatory and internal requirements.
• Review policy wordings, pleadings, legal advice, expert reports, and settlement recommendations.
• Manage relationships with brokers, insureds, lawyers, experts, underwriters, and internal stakeholders.
• Use data, analytics, AI-enabled tools, and digital solutions for decision-making, research, workflow automation, and portfolio insights while validating outputs.

Requirements

• Law degree with 3+ years of post-qualification experience, or 3–5 years of experience managing casualty, liability, or general insurance claims.
• Ability to interpret complex policy wordings and legal issues.
• Understanding of negligence, liability, and damages principles.
• Effective negotiation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.

Nice to have

• Law degree or relevant insurance qualification.
• Experience managing litigated matters and exposure to litigation and dispute resolution processes.
• Exposure to multinational programs and complex claims.
• Experience with reserving, portfolio analysis, and claims performance metrics.
• AI literacy and confidence using generative AI and digital tools for legal analysis, claims handling, drafting, and decision-making.
• Understanding of insurance policy interpretation and coverage analysis.
• FinPro claims management experience or a strong desire to learn FinPro claims.
