Principal Software Engineer (Architecture/Design Development)

Location: Plano, TX, United States; hybrid or in-office work with occasional travel. U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance with eligibility to obtain Top Secret / Top Secret with SCI eligibility are required.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for advanced software systems supporting aerospace applications.
• Lead major software projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Define software requirements and specifications with stakeholders and oversee architecture, design development, technical monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Create and maintain design specifications, user manuals, and other detailed software documentation.
• Mentor engineering teams, conduct high-level code reviews, and guide technical best practices.
• Represent software engineering in strategic meetings and lead initiatives improving software performance and reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
• 14+ years of software development experience.
• Expert proficiency in C++, Java, or Python.
• Extensive software development leadership experience and demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Expertise in software and equipment architecture/design development, technical monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance with eligibility to obtain Top Secret / Top Secret with SCI eligibility is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required for employment because of the active U.S. Security Clearance requirement.

Nice to have

• Expertise in advanced software technologies such as AI, machine learning, or cloud computing.
• Experience with RTOS and embedded systems.
• Significant aerospace and defense industry experience.
• Experience with C, C#, C++, HTML, Java, Python, and Bash.
• Experience with requirements tracking, code reviews, static analysis, library and artifact repositories, and automated build tools.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, and Spiral methodologies and proficiency with data structures.
• Experience with Open Mission System messaging protocol, Universal Command and Control Interface standards, mission system architectures, and systems engineering principles applied to software solutions.
• Understanding of airframes, air vehicle subsystems, and general aircraft operation.
