Senior Principal Software Engineer (Cloud Architecture)

Location: Flexible hybrid model; in-person interviews may be required for positions based in the Boston and Dublin offices.

Salary: $191,000–$239,000 USD annual base salary / OTE.

What you will do

• Own system and cloud architecture across services, data, jobs, AWS, and migration paths from legacy architectures.
• Partner with Product Engineering teams to prototype solutions, resolve difficult architecture problems, and leave reusable patterns.
• Serve as the technical lead for the AWS relationship and collaborate with AWS solutions architects on service guidance and roadmaps.
• Build proofs of concept and reference implementations using Terraform, Python, Java, and similar tools, while documenting technical trade-offs.
• Advance AWS self-service and guardrails with Cloud Enablement, including HCP Terraform workflows, Sentinel policies, IAM, and account and sandbox strategy.
• Lead SaaS maturity, compliance readiness, cost-aware cloud and AI architecture, agentic AWS workloads, technical decision records, workshops, and senior-engineer mentoring.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years designing and running production systems on AWS.
• Production-quality software engineering experience in at least one of Java, Python, TypeScript, or Go.
• Fluent use of infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Deep AWS expertise across networking, including VPC, Transit Gateway, and VPC Lattice; IAM; serverless services such as Lambda, Batch, and API Gateway; containers including EKS; and managed data stores.
• Experience designing for security and compliance, including least-privilege IAM and OAuth2/OIDC.
• Ability to build prototypes as well as write technical direction documents and explain architecture trade-offs.
• Ability to lead through influence and collaboration, build trust with engineers, managers, and executives, and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to treat cost efficiency as a design requirement.
