Principal Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States, Canada, or Mexico, with primary residence in or near an approved city and occasional in-person attendance required.

Salary: USD 167,000–316,500 in the United States outside California; USD 203,000–316,500 in California; CAD 214,000–283,500 in Canada. The position is also eligible for equity ownership and benefits.

What you will do

• Define architecture, patterns, and guardrails for collaboration between engineers and coding agents across the codebase, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure.
• Set the technical direction for internal tools, libraries, and platforms used by engineers across the organization.
• Turn ambiguous, cross-organizational problems into initiatives and own them from framing through delivery.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers, coach teams on using coding agents, and roll out new engineering capabilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including experience operating at Staff or Principal level.
• Hands-on experience applying AI to real software problems, including shipping, measuring, or meaningfully advancing agentic developer tooling in production.
• Deep knowledge of agentic systems, including agent runtimes and harnesses, tool use, context management, and evaluations.
• Track record of organization-wide technical impact, including setting durable technical direction, mentoring senior and staff engineers, and explaining complex technical ideas to leadership and engineers.
• Significant experience in developer experience, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering.
