Senior Mainframe Systems/Platform Engineer (z/OS)

Location: Columbus, Ohio, United States; remote or onsite. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Participates in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule.

What you will do

• Maintain the health, security, resiliency, availability, connectivity, and performance of z/OS, CICS, MQ, zCEE, and related mainframe platforms across multiple Sysplexes.
• Engineer, install, configure, customize, maintain, and support operating systems, application subsystems, vendor products, networking, storage, hardware, and Parallel Sysplex environments.
• Diagnose complex connectivity, encryption, transmission, performance, capacity, and platform incidents using packet traces, dumps, traces, logs, and performance data.
• Lead root-cause analysis, service restoration, monitoring improvements, automation, resiliency, availability, and scalability initiatives.
• Develop roadmaps, technical strategies, reference models, implementation plans, standards, documentation, capacity plans, and lifecycle plans.
• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, security, vendor, and management stakeholders while providing technical direction, training, and mentoring.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least seven years of professional experience in z/OS or mainframe systems engineering.
• Experience with z/OS installation, customization, and maintenance; CICS, MQ, zCEE, mainframe networking, performance management, capacity planning, storage, hardware configuration, or independent software vendor product maintenance.
• Experience with technical or project leadership, platform roadmaps, KPI development, technology strategy, platform ownership, portfolio planning, and engineering talent development.
• Advanced SMP/E experience and experience diagnosing, debugging, tuning, and resolving complex mainframe platform issues.
• Experience supporting production systems through formal change-management and incident-management processes and creating technical documentation, procedures, standards, and implementation plans.
• Expert knowledge of IBM Z technologies, including z/OS, CICS, CICSPLEX, MQ, zCEE, DB2 for z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, Coupling Facility, and GDPS.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, SNA/APPN, TCP, UDP, ICMP, routing, z/OS Communications Server, Network Configuration Assistant, AT-TLS, IPsec, z/VM SSL Server, encryption, certificates, CICS security, TLS, RACF, and resource-access controls.
• Experience with WLM, ICF and zIIP capacity analysis, SMF, SMS, ISPF, REXX, ChangeMan, automation, performance tools, CICS dumps and traces, and System Reliability Engineering concepts.
• Strong communication, prioritization, delivery, continuous-improvement, monitoring, security, resiliency, business-continuity, availability, and scalability skills; knowledge of banking or regulated financial services processes.

Nice to have

• Three or more years of technical or project leadership, platform roadmapping, or KPI development experience.
• Experience with BMC MainView, IBM CICS Interdependency Analyzer, IBM CICS Performance Analyzer, zPCA, SAS/MXG, IntelliMagic, or comparable tools.
