Senior Infrastructure Specialist (z Mainframe Db2 DBA)

Location: Edinburgh or Manchester, UK. Hybrid working requires spending at least two days per week or 40% of working time at the Edinburgh office.

Salary: £72,702–£80,780 per year.

What you will do

• Provide advanced technical support for complex z/OS mainframe Db2 environments, associated tools, utilities, and processes.
• Support incident and problem resolution for critical online systems, including out-of-hours coverage.
• Help define strategy and design for mainframe development and test environments.
• Own and drive the zDBA technology roadmap in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Implement standardisation, process improvements, governance, and operational controls across Lab and Platform teams.
• Support investment-funded work and maintain services in line with agreed standards, policies, and service levels.

Requirements

• Extensive, in-depth expertise in Db2 on z/OS.
• Expert experience with Db2 performance monitoring and optimisation, including SQL tuning and buffer pool tuning.
• Expert experience governing and approving DDL changes, managing schema evolution, validating impact, and following change-control processes.
• Extensive experience leading troubleshooting and resolution of critical online systems.
• Experience translating complex technical concepts for senior leadership.
• Experience coaching junior team members on Db2 fundamentals, performance tuning, utilities, and operational processes.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of experience as a z/OS Db2 DBA in a financial organisation.
