Senior Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; hybrid with an in-office expectation of at least 50% of the time monthly, typically three days per week.

Starting base salary: $180,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity and other compensation components.

What you will do

• Own one or two key areas of the transaction platform and serve as the subject-matter expert for design, feasibility, and correctness.
• Improve delivery-time estimates for accuracy, latency, and reliability, including systems using advanced ML models.
• Help peer teams migrate to new platform APIs without interrupting production traffic.
• Lead complex, multi-engineer initiatives from requirements clarification and workstream planning through delivery.
• Design, document, test, observe, and operate scalable, resilient, idempotent services and APIs, including on-call, SLOs, incident response, and root-cause resolution.
• Evaluate AI-assisted code for correctness, security, and maintainability; mentor engineers through reviews, interviews, onboarding, and responsible AI adoption.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend systems.
• 1+ year leading features with multiple engineers, including decomposing large, ambiguous work into executable workstreams.
• Expertise in Go, Kotlin, or similar languages such as Java, Python, or C++.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed backend systems on AWS, including high-throughput, low-latency services.
• Expertise with large-scale database systems such as MySQL and DynamoDB.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics, CI/CD, infrastructure tooling, and improving deployment, testing, logging, and monitoring practices.
• Experience migrating or decommissioning production systems while they remain in use, with a track record of technical architecture and system design decisions.
• Experience evaluating AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability, and coaching others on responsible AI use; comfort with ambiguity and clear written and verbal communication of technical tradeoffs.

Nice to have

• Experience with payments, fintech, or domains where data correctness and auditability are critical.
• Experience with durable workflow orchestration such as Temporal.
