Principal Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay: $261,500–$353,500 annually in Mountain View; the position may also be eligible for a cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Define and drive the multi-year technical vision and architecture for the Fintech Risk Platform.
• Design end-to-end risk decisioning systems covering transaction processing, identity verification, fraud detection, compliance, and dispute handling.
• Architect highly available, secure, low-latency platforms supporting $1T+ in annual money movement and billions of transactions.
• Build real-time and batch risk pipelines, resilient distributed systems, risk scoring, anomaly detection, and behavioral modeling.
• Integrate AI/ML and GenAI into fraud detection, identity risk assessment, adaptive policy generation, explainability, and real-time inference.
• Lead technical alignment across engineering, product, data science, compliance, and executive stakeholders; mentor senior and staff engineers and own key business metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of experience building and scaling complex distributed systems, with a strong track record of technical leadership.
• Experience architecting large-scale financial systems, payment platforms, or risk/fraud systems.
• Deep expertise in backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, or equivalent; frontend technologies including React or modern frameworks; and cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Strong production experience with AI/ML systems, real-time decisioning, and model integration.
• Experience designing systems operating at extreme scale, including billions of transactions and low-latency decisioning.
• Expertise in risk analytics, fraud detection strategies, and Fintech compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, data pipelines, and streaming frameworks.
• Exceptional ability to align engineering, product, data science, and business stakeholders, with strong business acumen connecting technical decisions to financial outcomes and customer impact.
