Jr. BI Engineer

Location: Hybrid, with in-person work in Woodlawn, Maryland; must reside in and be able to perform work in the United States. Candidates must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years. Travel to the Baltimore office in Woodlawn, Maryland is required once a month.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance interactive Tableau dashboards, visualizations, and reports.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries for extracting, transforming, and analyzing data from relational databases.
• Use Python for data cleaning, manipulation, automation, and exploratory data analysis.
• Assist with ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines, including documentation of data processes, business logic, queries, and reporting solutions.
• Perform data validation, quality checks, reconciliation, and analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to translate reporting requirements into actionable insights and improve workflows through automation and AI-assisted tools.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance designation.
• Must reside in and be able to perform work in the United States, and must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least one year of experience.
• Good working knowledge of Python, including Pandas and NumPy.
• Strong foundational knowledge of SQL, including joins, subqueries, aggregations, CTEs, and window functions.
• Hands-on knowledge of Tableau for dashboards, visualizations, calculated fields, and reports.
• Understanding of relational databases, data modeling concepts, and data quality principles.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, collaboration, willingness to learn, and ability to adapt to evolving business requirements.

Nice to have

• Basic knowledge of Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Familiarity with R for statistical analysis and data visualization.
• Understanding of AI prompt engineering for data analysis, code generation, documentation, and productivity improvements.
• Exposure to generative AI tools, APIs, or AI-assisted development workflows.
• Familiarity with Git/version control, cloud platforms, or data warehousing technologies.
• Basic understanding of statistics, business metrics, and KPI development.
• Academic projects, internships, certifications, or personal projects involving Python, SQL, or Tableau.
