Senior Power BI Developer (Microsoft Power BI)

Location: Remote, but must live within commutable distance of the customer site in Springfield, Virginia, United States. U.S. citizenship is required, and the role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government Public Trust clearance.

Target salary: $150,000–$170,000/year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise Power BI dashboards, interactive reports, semantic models, and custom reporting solutions.
• Build advanced Power BI reports and models using DAX, Power Query (M), Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, dimensional modeling, star schemas, and performance optimization.
• Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, views, database integrations, and ETL/ELT processes across SQL Server, Oracle, APIs, cloud data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse environments.
• Use Python for data processing, scripting, automation, validation, and reporting-platform integration.
• Configure workspaces, datasets, refresh schedules, gateways, deployment pipelines, security controls, row-level security, and role-based access.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers, database administrators, developers, stakeholders, and end users across requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, support, and reporting modernization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in business intelligence, data analytics, reporting development, database development, or related technical disciplines, including significant hands-on Power BI development.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M), and semantic data modeling.
• Experience designing and maintaining complex enterprise dashboards, interactive reports, custom reporting solutions, relational database structures, dimensional models, star schemas, data relationships, and enterprise reporting architecture.
• Advanced SQL expertise, including complex queries, joins, CTEs, stored procedures, views, data manipulation, and query performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, including familiarity with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
• Experience integrating Power BI with enterprise databases, APIs, external data sources, cloud-based data environments, ETL/ELT processes, data transformations, and automated refresh solutions.
• Hands-on Python experience for data processing, scripting, automation, data validation, or integration with reporting and analytics platforms.
• Experience optimizing DAX calculations, semantic models, query execution, Power BI performance, and data refresh processes.
• Knowledge of Power BI security, workspace administration, access controls, and data governance.
• Experience translating business and operational reporting requirements into technical specifications and functional BI solutions.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills across complex enterprise data environments.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government Public Trust clearance.

• Power BI Report Builder, paginated reports, SSRS, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or other enterprise ETL/ELT technologies.
• Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Factory, AWS Redshift, Databricks, Azure SQL, cloud data warehouses, data lakes, or lakehouse architectures.
• Advanced Oracle PL/SQL development, including stored procedures, functions, packages, and database performance tuning.
• Python libraries such as Pandas or PySpark.
• Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate, and integrations with SharePoint Online, Teams, or enterprise applications.
• Power BI Embedded, REST APIs, .NET/C#, Java, JavaScript, HTML, or CSS for custom reporting interfaces and embedded analytics.
• AWS or Azure cloud services, Git, version control, deployment pipelines, CI/CD, AI-enabled analytics, Microsoft Copilot, predictive analytics, or emerging AI technologies.
• Experience modernizing legacy reporting systems, migrating enterprise reporting solutions to Power BI, or supporting federal government customers and mission-critical enterprise applications.
