Advisor, Legal Counsel

Location: Burlington, Canada; hybrid, with regular virtual work and in-person work at an assigned hirify.global office for at least two days per week.

Salary: CAD 131,000–163,000 annually.

What you will do

• Provide approximately 80% product legal support and 20% commercial legal support, with the allocation changing according to business needs.
• Review products, features, initiatives, and privacy impact assessments for compliance with Canadian legal obligations, including PIPEDA and consumer reporting legislation.
• Develop and execute legal risk mitigation strategies across the product development life cycle.
• Draft and update product templates, terms of use, privacy policies, commercial contracts, certificates, and related documents.
• Advise marketing on product launches and go-to-market activities, and provide practical advice to senior management on complex contractual, technology, and personal-information matters.
• Support contract negotiations, legislative monitoring, corporate risk analysis, internal training, and collaboration with legal, business, and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor of common law and 3–5 years of experience as a lawyer.
• Membership in the Law Society of Ontario.
• Required knowledge of PIPEDA and other Canadian privacy laws, contract law, general corporate commercial law, and strong negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated experience advising clients on products and services.
• Ability to work effectively with peers, management, and teams at all organizational levels.
• Strong organizational, advocacy, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
• Strong English writing skills and the ability to draft clear and concise documents.
• Ability to manage multiple complex, conflicting, and rapidly changing priorities and coordinate internal and external resources.
• Technological adeptness and proficiency with professional tools.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of consumer reporting legislation.
