Lead Application Engineer (Java)

Salary: $140,000–$185,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead and mentor application engineers through technical guidance, architectural direction, code reviews, and complex problem solving.
• Design, develop, and maintain production-ready Java applications and microservices using Spring Boot, Spring Data, and RESTful APIs.
• Lead application assessments, containerization, and migration from VM-based environments to Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine.
• Guide Kubernetes deployments and troubleshooting, including Docker containers, CI/CD pipelines, resource configuration, secrets management, runtime readiness, and application runtime issues.
• Define unit, integration, and API testing strategies; design data-access layers for SQL and NoSQL databases; and implement logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Coordinate modernization initiatives across a portfolio of 500+ applications and collaborate with platform engineering, DevOps, security, and architecture teams while using Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini for engineering automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology and Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience in application engineering, Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, application testing, and production troubleshooting.
• Experience with application modernization, VM-to-container migration, and cloud deployments.
• Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, application observability, and distributed systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, and cross-team collaboration skills.
• Google Cloud Platform is the primary cloud platform; experience with other cloud platforms is a plus.

• Experience with React, Angular, or Vue and integration with RESTful APIs.
