Staff Site Reliability Engineer, Tools & Systems

Location: Remote Canada

Hiring ranges: CAD 128,000–171,000 for Canada Tier 1 locations; CAD 116,000–155,000 for Canada Tier 2 locations.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, and operate software and systems supporting Firefox engineering.
• Develop developer tooling, CI/CD, workflow automation, and AI-assisted development tools.
• Own complex technical problems across software, cloud, and operational layers, improving reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency.
• Partner with Firefox Engineering, Cloud Engineering, IT, and other teams on problems spanning technical and organizational boundaries.
• Use telemetry, metrics, and data analysis to investigate problems and guide engineering decisions.
• Contribute to architecture and technical strategy by identifying recurring problems and reusable solutions.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering skills and substantial hands-on experience deploying and operating production systems are required.
• Strong programming skills in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience building, deploying, and operating production systems in cloud environments, including infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
• Experience in several areas including CI/CD, containers and orchestration, networking, databases, observability, or developer tooling.
• Experience using data, telemetry, and metrics to investigate technical problems and make decisions.
• Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tools and understanding of their capabilities, limitations, and appropriate use.
• Ability to work across unfamiliar systems, technical domains, and disciplines while translating between software, infrastructure, and operational concerns.
• Ability to combine hands-on engineering with systems thinking, technical judgment, open communication, teaching, and helping others build skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with C++ or Rust.
